The ICFAI Law School of The ICFAI University, Dehradun organized a ‘Legal Aid Camp’ under the aegis of District Legal Service Authority (DLSA, Dehradun) at Gram Panchayat Bhavan, Rajawala, Sahaspur, Dehradun Gram Panchayat Bhavan, Rajawala, Sahaspur, Dehradun

A team of members consisting faculty convener Mr. Suneel kumar, Mrs. Monica kharola (faculty incharge),Dr. Susanta kr. Shadangi,Mr. Avnish bhatt,Miss.Ruth Vaiphei and student members was formed to conduct a legal aid camp at Gram Panchayat Bhavan, Rajawala,Sahaspur, Dehradun with an aim to promote ‘Legal Literacy and Awareness’ among the general mass of villagers. The camp focused on educating the residents of Rajawala, Bhagwanpur and Tailpura regarding major issues of concern such as sexual abuse, domestic violence and empowering them to generate different kinds of skills and knowledge needed to fight with various social evils in society. The program intended to notify the villagers about when and how to obtain suitable legal assistance. It focused on educating them by making them conscious about their legal rights in order to exercise it appropriately. Student coordinators- Sandeep dubey, Swatantra Kumar Yadav, Utkarsh Tripathi, Apoorva Tomar, Nikhil Srivastav arranged the help desk for victims for redressel of their concerns.

Hon'ble guests namely Pradhan rajawala smt. Deviki bisht, pradhan bhagwanpur smt. Baladevi sharma and Principle Mr. Sumiraj negi from rajawala primary school made this camp a great success by sharing their knowledge and speeches on social n legal issues like women empowerment and labour laws etc. During the camp, CDO-GS Rawat and DDO-P.K Pandey motivated the villagers to keep their surroundings clean and administered an oath to the villagers for the same. The students took the front foot n actively participated in the event wherein a poster exhibition & a poster competition also took place representing the social evils like dowry, female foeticide etc as integral part of the event and was served as an efforts to make the society aware about their legal rights.The winners of Poster making competition Ankurita Bit and Sameena Rehman along with the runners-up Shreyosi Das and Aarushi were awarded trophies sponcered by “Blazing Alloys, Dehradun”. It all started with interacting, understanding and analyzing each villager's issues and capability to imbibe knowledge by asking some general questions through the help desk in order to redress their concerns. The programme was concluded with distribution of leaflets on legal awareness. "The overwhelming response of the villagers was an encouragement for the ones who took steps for the betterment of the society. It is our privilege that we are able to render support to the victims and their families through this camp. We can fight such evils together and empower the victims but only through spreading awareness about the laws to protect people from crimes like sexual offences and domestic violence.” said the chief guest Pradhan rajawala smt. Deviki Bisht.

All the cases reported in the camp related to dowry, property disputes and endangerment due to high-tension wires close to the house of the complainant, were forwarded to the District Legal Service Authority for further inquiry and appropriate action to be taken for solving the problem of the concerned individuals.

Mrs. Monica kharola (faculty incharge), Dr. Susanta kr. Shadangi, Mr. Avnish bhatt, Miss.Ruth Vaipheishared the best of their legal and social knowledge with villagers wherein they made them aware about acts like POCSO or The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 which were established to protect the children against offences like sexual abuse, sexual harassment and pornography. It was formed to provide a child-friendly system for trial underneath which the perpetrators could be punished. The Act defines a child as any person below eighteen years of age. It also makes provisions for avoiding the re-victimization of the child at the hands of the judicial system. Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 received the President’s assent on June 19, 2012. It was notified in the Gazette of India on June 20, in the same year.

They also educated the villagers about domestic violence, also named domestic abuse or family violence is violence or other abuse by one person against another in a domestic setting, such as in marriage or cohabitation. It may be termed intimate partner violence when committed by a spouse or partner in an intimate relationship against the other spouse or partner, and can take place in heterosexual or same-sex relationships, or between former spouses or partners. Domestic violence can also involve violence against children, parents, or the elderly. It takes a number of forms, including physical, verbal, emotional, economic, religious, reproductive, and sexual abuse, which can range from subtle, coercive forms to marital rape and to violent physical abuse such as choking, beating, female genital mutilation, and acid throwing that results in disfigurement or death. Domestic murders include stoning, bride burning, honor killings, and dowry deaths.
